BUILT DIFFERENT
I didn't mean to mislead you - AI can do a lot of things.
That's why your personal taste is more important than ever.
This week has been busy because I visited a friend and attended an event where almost every business was focused on AI, even in areas you wouldn't expect.
I enjoy staying updated with tech, which means trying out AI tools and more.
However, I've also been working in the creative field for over 7 years, and I have some thoughts to share.
Let’s dive in.

THE INSIGHT
Humans have always used tools to help with thinking, but this often comes with a trade-off. For example:
- Writing helps us remember more, but we don't recall details as well.
- GPS makes navigation easier, but we lose some sense of direction.
- Social media connects us with more people, but it distracts us.
AI is similar, but the effects happen faster. According to the extended mind theory, we use tools to think better. However, relying too much on these tools means we might not develop our own thinking skills as much.
Here's what AI offers:
- Great efficiency
- Quick answers
- Fast processing
But it can also reduce:
- Deep thinking (we stop solving problems ourselves)
- Originality (we tend to produce average results)
- Attention span (we get used to quick prompts instead of focusing)
To succeed with AI, you need to:
- Act quickly
- Know what’s important to focus on
If you move fast without good judgment, you create noise. If you have good judgment but move slowly, you become irrelevant. Combining both speed and good judgment gives you a strong advantage.

THE STORY
In the 1980s, researchers studied memory. They asked people to remember information. One group was told the info would be saved on a computer and could be accessed later. This group remembered less, not because they couldn't, but because their brains thought it wasn't important to store. This is called the Google effect or digital amnesia.
Here's what people often overlook: The brain not only stores less information, but it also thinks less deeply about it. Deep thinking takes effort, and if getting the info later is easy, deep thinking seems unnecessary.
Today, with AI able to:
- write for you
- think for you
- create ideas quickly
Your brain might think, "Why bother?" This is a big change: AI doesn't just change what you produce; it changes what your brain thinks is worth the effort. Over time, this affects who you become.

THE ACTION STEP
It's easy to get caught up in all these AI tools.
Sometimes it feels like a trend, but it also reminds me of the early days of the internet.
Here's a tip that might surprise you: spend more time away from screens.
When you're working, focus completely. But to stay creative and keep your unique perspective, take breaks to observe the world around you and think for yourself, instead of relying on AI.
Personally, I make sure to explore AI tools during weekends and late nights, so I don't fall behind.
THE TAKEAWAY
- Be mindful of how you use AI and always remember what makes you truly unique.
- Act quickly. Those who move quickly tend to fail and learn quickly, which helps them succeed in the long run because they know how to adapt.
- Keep your long-term goals in mind. You don't need to try every new tool just to feel like you're ahead, especially if it distracts you from focusing on your top three priorities each week.
Until next week,
K
