Why I am writing this
In January 2025, I set my first fitness goal: run a half marathon.
Halfway through the year, I was convinced there was no way I’d ever get there. Until a few weeks ago, I realized I was ready. I’d just been delaying it for no reason.
It was going to hurt anyway, whether I did it in a month or a year.
So I did it.

And I’m writing this to remind myself (and maybe you too):
sometimes you just have to take that step, do that thing.
1 Insight
Momentum rarely feels like progress — until you look back.
When you start running, writing, building, or creating, you don’t suddenly feel capable on day one. You become capable because you began.
There’s a great line from James Clear:
“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
What he doesn’t say is. systems only work when you start using them.
Waiting for clarity or confidence is like waiting for motivation before you exercise. It might show up once in a while, but you’ll get further if you lace up first.
1 Habit
When I couldn’t get myself to do the “big” runs, I started doing micro-commitments.
Nine out of ten times, once I did that, the rest followed.
This applies to everything — writing a draft, sending that email, making that call.
Start ridiculously small. The smaller the commitment, the easier it is to win. And once you’re in motion, momentum does the rest.
1 Story
There’s a principle Navy SEALs call the 40% rule.
It says that when your mind tells you you’re done, you’ve hit your limit, you can’t push anymore, you’re actually only at 40% of your true capacity.
The rest is locked behind discomfort.
Most people stop when things start to hurt. The ones who go further aren’t stronger — they’ve just learned not to trust that voice that says stop.
When I was training, that voice showed up often.
During my long runs, it told me I was done at 10 km, at 14, at 19.
But every time I pushed a little past it, I discovered something new about myself.
That’s what this run — and this story — reminded me of:
the limits we believe in are usually self-imposed.
That’s it for this week!!!
